SUN LAE KIM: GLOBAL MINISTRIES MISSIONARY
Sun Lae Kim, Global Ministries Missionary serving in Mongolia, will be itinerating to the Susquehanna Conference from April 17-21, 2016. Priority will be given to the churches who currently support her, but there are additional times and dates open if you are interested in having Ms. Kim come to share with your group about the work she is doing.
Dr. Mark and Deidre Zimmerman will be home from April thru mid-summer and hope to connect with many of their supporting churches. They will be arranging their own schedule, but I will post it as soon as it is complete so that those who are interested can learn more about what they are doing through their ministries in Nepal.

IMPORTANT PROPERTY & CASUALTY INSURANCE REMINDERS
With the cold weather blowing in, it is the perfect time to remind everyone the importance of protecting your "tools of ministry" from the risks of winter weather. Unfortunately, each year churches of the Susquehanna Conference suffer water damage claims costing hundreds of thousands of dollars for repairs, not to mention the inconvenience and displacement while repairs are completed. While not all claims were the result of freezing pipes, a significant number were and this is a cause of loss that is actually preventable.
Please access and view a list of Winter Weather Property Protection Tips by going on the Conference website at www.susumc.org then click "About Us" then "Finance & Administration" followed by "Property & Casualty Insurance." At the bottom of the right hand side of the page, click on "Winter Weather - Property Protection" or you can CLICK HERE.
While active buildings are susceptible to this type of loss, vacant and unoccupied buildings are at particular risk and should be winterized and checked regularly to avoid catastrophic damage from water and mold if undetected for extended periods of time.
As a reminder, Philadelphia Insurance Company performs periodic risk control inspections of the churches and Conference owned properties within the Conference to determine if hazards exist that may increase the chance of a fire or other types of property damage as well as slips and falls. Detected hazards are categorized as "Risk Improvement" or "Critical." "Risk Improvement" recommendations are those that basically offer suggestions for loss prevention based on the inspector's observations and should be reviewed and corrected if possible. "Critical" recommendations are those that present a serious potential for loss and must be addressed and complied with.
Following the inspection, all recommendations are discussed with the church representative who accompanied the inspector followed by a letter usually via email outlining the recommendations and requesting that within 30 to 45 days an acknowledgment and plan of action be communicated back to the inspector. Currently, Conference wide, there are a significant number of open recommendations, many of them being "Critical" that have not been either acknowledged or addressed. Failure to respond to the insurance company or failure to comply with "critical" recommendations can have several important consequences. First and foremost, increased potential of having a loss that destroys your house of worship or worse, injury to your most important assets, members of your congregation, visitors or staff. Second, failure to acknowledge or act on recommendations sends a negative message to the insurance company and can affect the desirability and cost of the overall program, not to mention cause the insurance coverage's provided to be reduced or limited.
If you have outstanding recommendations please reply to the letter/email you received from the insurance company or to me. In addition to this reminder, specifics of open recommendations that have not been acknowledged will be provided to the District Superintendents throughout the Conference.
The Property & Casualty Insurance Committee along with the District Superintendents have worked diligently over the past few months with a number of churches to close many open items. A special thanks to the Trustees of those churches for your forward thinking and positive actions.
