PASTORS CONSIDERING RETIREMENT AT THE 2016 SESSION OF ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Active Pastors under appointment (Local Church and Extension Ministry) who are considering requesting the Retired Relationship at the 2016 Session of Annual Conference are urged to check paragraph No. 358, page 295 in the "2012 Book of Discipline." I call your attention to the second sentence of the opening statement.

"Requests for retirement shall be stated in writing to the bishop, cabinet, and the Board of Ordained Ministry at least one hundred twenty days prior to the date on which retirement is to be effective unless waived by the bishop and cabinet."

If you are considering retirement at the 2016 Session of Annual Conference, please be sure that you honor the 120 days notification. As indicated in the Discipline, your request should be sent to the Bishop. Please copy your request letter to your district superintendent; with additional copies to Rev. Charles Sprenkle, Chairperson of the Conference Board of Ordained Ministry, Rev. Donald Hurley, Chairperson of the Board's Conference Relations Committee, and Mrs. Andra Haverstock, Conference Pension Officer.

If you have any additional questions, please be sure to contact your district superintendent and/or the Episcopal office.

Gregory C. Myers
Assistant to the Bishop

MARCH 1 DEADLINE FOR HEALTH MINISTRIES GRANT APPLICATION

Some limited funding remains for 2016 Conference Health Ministries Grants. The Mission and Outreach Team is re-opening the grant application process with March 1 as the deadline for congregations to apply.

Available funds will be awarded to assist with new health-related programs and with existing programs that demonstrate success. Preference will be given to projects that fulfill our mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.  Innovative programs that meet real community needs in connection with other local ministries and other local churches will be given high priority. Grants may be given for parish nurse related programs, including initial training for parish nurses and/or health ministries, for purchase of blood pressure apparatus and first aid kits, for printed materials needed to begin a program, expenses for a health fair, and toward the purchase of an AED and CPR/AED training up to designated amounts.
