Interpersonal Communication Skills for Clergy
with Elizabeth Givler
As Christians called United Methodists, we are called to "Making disciples for the transformation of the world" as we "rethink church." To make disciples outside of the congregation, and think about the role of the church in our communities, pastors and congregations must be united in mission and ministry. This means that we have to effectively communicate with one another. Effective interpersonal communication within the local congregation is often times challenging. Misunderstandings, stalemates, and unspoken expectations can significantly inhibit effective communication, and as a result, stall the congregation's mission in the community. In this workshop, participants will learn about common roadblocks to effective communication, how to recognize these roadblocks in themselves and in their congregations, and strategies to overcome communication barriers so that the local congregation can make disciples.
