CLEARFIELD DISASTER RESPONSE

The Disaster Response arm of the Missional Board has been activated in response to the flooding in Clearfield. Ron Salsman is working with other leaders to assume responsibility for recovery work as a result of the Clearfield flash flood. Our information is that damages resulted from thunderstorm cells that stalled over the area depositing over five inches of rain in ninety minutes! Estimated damage levels did not reach FEMA or PEMA requirements for aide. All recovery is being done by faith-based groups. After this week, a coalition of United Methodist, Lutheran, and Presbyterian pastors will comprise the local VOAD.

The total number of houses requesting assistance is at 98. About half have had ERT work completed. A goal of completing ERT work within thirty days has been established.

At this time, support personnel can contact Ron by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Housing is available on a limited basis. We are working to acquire additional facilities. The problem is very limited showering facilities.

A special account has been created for donations toward this effort. Please send contributions to our conference treasurer noting "Clearfield Disaster Reponse" Acct # 270-77370.

NEW BOUNDARIES COURSE FOR PASTORS - KEEPING OUR SACRED TRUST

During Clergy Session it was announced that a new Clergy Sexual Ethics Boundaries resource is available. The Susquehanna Conference Sexual Ethics Policy includes the following requirements (CLM's and lay speakers have the same requirements as clergy):

  •     All clergy serving under appointment or as supply are required to take Basic Boundaries within the first six months of beginning the appointment.
  •     Clergy are to take a Sexual Ethics Boundaries course during each quadrennium.
  •     Courses available are:
  •   Boundaries II - offered locally, contact your district superintendent to see when it is being offered
  •   Keeping Our Sacred Trust - on-line course through the Lewis Center at www.keepingoursacredtrust.org - cost is $49 and offers .5 CEU's
  •     Other courses will be developed.
  •     For our purposes, courses taken this summer through December 2020 will be credited to the new quadrennium.

Colleagues, it is important that we keep ourselves aware and well informed. This is something we do, not only because we have to, but because it is important!
