PREACHING WITH POWER PROGRAM RETURNING THIS FALL

Preaching with Power is a hands-on learning program for pastors and preachers at all levels to further improve their fruitfulness in one of their most important functions - proclaiming the Word to their congregations. To date, 58 pastors of the Susquehanna Conference have graduated from PwP.

The fall PwP program will consist of twelve weekly sessions on Tuesdays, 9 a.m. - noon at Middlesex UMC, Carlisle, Pa.
Dates:
September 13, 20, 27
October 4, 11, 18, 25
November 1, 8, 15, 29
December 6 (Time change due to graduation luncheon is noon - 3 p.m.)

If you are wondering whether Preaching with Power is for you, answer these questions:

  •     Do your congregants regularly get the point of the message in your sermon?
  •     Do you know whether your congregants understand and remember your sermon?
  •     Do you regularly wrestle with having to condense 15 or more pages of notes to fit your preaching time slot?
  •     Do you wish you could preach without having to depend on notes?
  •     Do you have a dependable and effective system for sermon preparation?

Your answers to the above questions will tell you whether you should register for the course. Due to the interactive and "learning by doing" nature of the program, class size is limited to ten participants. Registrations will close after the first ten slots are filled. Late registrants will be placed on a waiting list. PwP is open to all pastors and lay speakers of the Susquehanna Conference. Deadline for registration: August 30, 2016, but register as soon as possible.

Each participant will receive 36 hours of contact time over the 12 weeks, DiSC analysis and interpretation regarding preaching to reach all styles, advanced communication tips from neuro-linguistic programming, mind mapping instruction and practice, articles and resources for preaching, video clips of their preaching, the opportunity to learn from and get encouragement from fellow preachers in PwP, CEU credits, certificate of completion, and a graduation luncheon to attend with their spouse or mentor or friend.

Fee: $1,000

The fee is usually covered by educational funds from participant's church and/or Board of Ordained Ministry and/or the district.

Instructor and facilitator: Dr. Dilip Abayasekara, Accredited Speaker, Provisional Deacon.

IMPORTANT PROPERTY & CASUALTY INSURANCE INFORMATION

The certified replacement value re-appraisal project for all buildings in the Susquehanna Conference will commence in July. As in the past, this project involves buildings including stained glass windows and permanently attached fixtures within them. Having church contents specifically appraised continues to be an option that is available to all churches and should be arranged individually with AssetWorks.

The last round of appraisals began in mid 2006 following approval at Annual Conference that year and concluded with appraisals of all of the buildings in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre District in 2011. The new project is planned in phases over the next four years starting with the oldest appraisals to the newest. The first phase will include all churches in the Lewisburg District and all conference properties and camps. The firm performing the new appraisals is AssetWorks, and a representative will be making contact to schedule their on-site visits starting in the next couple of weeks. While we have attempted to provide the most up-to-date contact information to AssetWorks, with appointment changes taking place effective July 1, the contact information we have may not always be as accurate as we would like. Any assistance with directing AssetWorks to the most appropriate contact person will be greatly appreciated.

For future planning, the additional phases will be as follows:
2017 - Altoona and Williamsport Districts
2018 - State College and Harrisburg Districts
2019 - York and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Districts

Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this important project.

LIVE ORIGINAL THEATER! DON'T MISS IT!

Greene Hills Music Theater Camp presents an original production tentatively titled Christmas in July. This year a talented group of junior/senior high campers will write their own production as they explore the meaning of Christmas. Come celebrate with us as we discover what Christmas means to us, and maybe even what it means to you.

The original musical will be performed Friday, July 15, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, July 16, at 9 a.m. at The Barn at Greene Hills, 5125 Manor Dr., Alexandria, PA 16611.

A freewill offering will be accepted to support the ongoing expenses of producing musicals for this camp.

Questions? Call Greene Hills at 814-669-4212.
