Active pastors under appointment (local church and extension ministry) who are considering requesting the Retired Relationship at the 2017 Session of Annual Conference are urged to check paragraph No. 358, page 295, in the "2012 Book of Discipline." I call your attention to the second sentence of the opening statement:
"Requests for retirement shall be stated in writing to the bishop, cabinet, and the Board of Ordained Ministry at least one hundred twenty days prior to the date on which retirement is to be effective (unless waived by the bishop and the cabinet)."
If you are considering retirement at the 2017 Session of Annual Conference, your request must adhere to the time frame indicated above. As indicated in the "Book of Discipline," your request should be sent to the bishop. Please copy your request letter to your district superintendent, with additional copies to Rev. Suzanne Elliott, Chairperson of the Conference Board of Ordained Ministry; Patricia Woolever, Chairperson of the Conference Relations Committee; and Mrs. Kelly Cox, Conference Pension Officer. Remember, Annual Conference will be held this year from May 4 thru May 6 at Hershey Lodge and Convention Center.

CHILD ADVOCACY TRAINING
Child Advocacy Training will be held at Countryside Community UMC, 14011 Orchard Dr., Clarks Summit, PA 18411 on November 18, 2016, from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
The Commission on Child Advocacy is preparing the Second Advocacy Training Event at Countryside Community UMC. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the church with breakfast provided. Training begins at 9:00 a.m. with devotions, orientation, and the Keynote Address given by May Ann Laporta, Director of the Child Advocacy Center in Scranton. The Morning Plenary continues with an overview of the condition of children in Pennsylvania and our ministry opportunities.
Training seminars will follow the luncheon including "Building Advocacy Networks," "Safe Sanctuaries and Mandated Reporting", "Creating an Effective Young People's Ministry", "Using Demographics to Reach the Kids on the Margins." The event ends by 3:30 p.m.
